ConsultantWhen your health care demands services or consultations not available through our office, we will do our best to coordinate your referral with consideration to your personal preferences and within the limitations of your insurance plan. If you have a health plan that requires pre-authorization for services needed, please let your doctor know. Our referral coordinators will complete the appropriate forms and refer you to a provider that participates with your insurance plan to help minimize any out-of-pocket expenses for you. Failure to provide proper notice regarding your insurance plan requirements prior to services being rendered (including hospital and emergency room visits) could result in your having to pay substantial penalties.

Most of the time completing a referral requires contacting and awaiting response from your insurance company and/or the speciality provider. As a result, our office requests that you contact our office regarding your referral at least 4 days prior to your appointment when possible.

ATTENTION PREFERRED PLUS OF KANSAS MEMBERS
As a member of PPK, you are responsible for obtaining a RA (Referral Authorization) from your PCP (Primary Care Provider) for all health care services not provided by your PCP. The PCP must submit a RA to PPK prior to such health care services being rendered. You should ask for a copy of the Referral Authorization. It will specify:

  • Who you will be seeing or where to obtain an item
  • What specific treatment or item is authorized by your PCP
  • The time frame authorized by your PCP
  • The number of visits authorized by your PCP (if specified)
  • Any testing to be done by the Specialist Physician or by your PCP

A PCP RA (Referral Authorization) does not, in and of itself, guarantee the health care services will be covered by PPK.

Behavioral health, substance abuse, and Biologically Based Mental Illness services do not require a PCP Referral Authorization; however, they must be Prior Authorized by PPK as stated in the Prior Authorization Process section of your benefit plan description.
